Background
Jubilee's background is fairly simple. Her origins are mixed Asian-American heritage, her wealthy immigrant parents murdered by hitmen. When Jubilee was suddenly orphaned, she ran away from the orphanage she was placed in and ended up spending most of her time in an L.A. mall, stealing what she needed to survive. This also kept her skills sharp for escaping the mall cops.
She was eventually picked up by the X-men and spent the rest of her formative teen years in Westchester, finally getting her High School diploma. Around her 20th birthday, Jubilee received word that she had a surviving relative: an elderly but wealthy aunt who'd just come from China. Apparently, no one else in her family knew this woman existed. She lived there for several weeks, returning only after her aunt's apparent suicide amidst a cloud of intrigue.
Jubilee now acts as a reserve member of the X-Men and assists with PE-style courses for those interested in gymnastics; she keeps her combat skills honed, too. Jubilee isn't usually assigned to missions, just sometimes happens to end up there because she's either been captured, or because everyone else is totally going! What she'll do from here is anyone's guess.
Personality
Jubilee's usually friendly, fun-loving, spunky, spontaneous and sarcastic, but she's also investigative and nosy, with a tendency to gossip. She can be relentless, persistent and determined. If you don't want something known around the X-Mansion, tell Jubilee! She'll tell you in the most tactless way possible. At least she tries to be an optimist even in the worst situations.
Unfortunately, the downside to Jubilee's general personality is that people tend to consider her an airhead, obnoxious, annoying, a snob, and sometimes... yeah, a bitch. As it usually happens, she's really a sharp cookie with a heart of gold and an unrepentant romantic.
She believes in the dream of mutants and humans living in harmony, but she also resents the secrecy and insularity. After all, how can humans learn to accept mutants and understand them instead of fear them, if they hide in the shadows?
Powers
- Fireworks -- Jubilee's power is basically multi-colored particle blobs of plasma that are generated by her hands and fingers, detonated by psionic command. Her "fireworks" come in a variety of colors, shapes and intensity... and usually sound like their namesake. They can be shot to a maximum distance of 1/10th of a mile. At lower levels, she can create a multitude of sparkles capable of temporarily blinding others, but if stressed or scared, the stronger her explosions can become; some are powerful enough to cause severe collateral damage to her immediate area. Jubilee is able to re-absorb unused "pafs" without personal harm. It's currently believed that Jubilee has the unrealized potential to detonate matter on a molecular scale, but she herself has no clue.
Skills
- Sketching -- This is an innate and above-average skill for sketching lifelike pictures, mostly using charcoals and pastels. She's somehow able to capture the feel and look, even the body language of whatever she's drawing. At times Jubilee utilizes this method to meditate.
- Athletics -- In addition to her Olympic gymnastic skills, Jubilee's talent for roller-blading warrants mention. While she was on the run, this skill came in very handy when she was trying to evade capture. People don't take too kindly to thieves, even if they're stealing to survive. To this day one of her favorite past times is just sailing around the compound or hitting the local rink.
- Gymnastics -- Even as a child, Jubilee was an exceptional and talented gymnast, but she never let her training fall by the wayside. Although she could still easily qualify for the Olympics, it's not her focus or direction in life.
- Physical Combat She had her first throw down in Juvie at 14 and from there, was forced to learn several street-fighting techniques very quickly. Living on the streets, these skills didn't have time to rust, and by the time she was picked up for Xavier's she took to additional combat training like a champ, including boxing.
Boons
- Basics -- As a reserve (aka backup/understudy/sidekick) member of the X-Men, Jubilee has ready access to the Danger Room, and even has her own uniform. She gets a $1,000 per month stipend from her trust fund, part of which she donates to the Mansion for room and board, part of which goes into a special savings account... and the rest goes into her hot little pockets.
Flaws
- Learnin' -- She's a smart girl, but Jubilee has always been what you'd call an "academic underachiever"; she's not really scholastically inclined. Her high school diploma is the result of some serious tutoring, which may be partially due to her dyscalculia - the condition that causes the inability to complete mathematical problems.
- Power Flaw -- This is her lack of control when she's upset, scared, or really, really stressed out. Jubilee needs focus to control the intensity of her explosions. Stress her out too much and put her in a group of friend or foe, and someone's liable to get hurt.
- Look Before you Leap -- Or in Jubilee's case... don't. She's extremely impulsive and more often that not doesn't take the time to think her plans through.
